Introduction

Front

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The front of the {{product.name}} has a camera allowing users to partake in facetime chatting via apps like Skype or Google's proprietary video chat program.

Back

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The back of the {{product.name}} has a 5MP camera for those looking to capture their surroundings in grainy, large filesized glory.

Sides

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

Though there's only one shot here, take note that the sides of the {{product.name}} are thin. Not only that, but it's where the decent array of ports live.

Handling

{{section_header}}{{section.name}}{{/section_header}}

The {{product.name}} is very much lighter than many tablets its size. Because of the thin profile, however, it's a little difficult to handle well without making the screen a little greasy from fingerprints. We don't imagine fatigue will be a problem.

Screen

The {{product.name}} is built around a 10.1 inch LED-backlit IPS display, as well as the ever-ubiquitous gorilla glass layer of protection. With a resolution of 1280 x 800, the Excite X10 seems to give us similar measurements as the previous Toshiba heavyweight, the Thrive.

Conclusion

While we do not know all of the ins and outs of the tablets performance thus far, we can tell you that Toshiba seems to be upping their game to weather a storm of new tablets coming out in 2012. The new Excite X10 is not only one of the thinnest tablets we've seen so far, but it combines a lot of the defining features of tablets created by other television companies to compete with as many different tablets as possible; i.e. it's not trying to be an iPad, it's trying to out-muscle other tablets as a media platform.

At first glance, the specs seem to be solid for this tablet: 10.1 inch IPS display, decent resolution, HDMI out, IR blaster, all of your standard tablet features and internal hardware. That being said, there really isn't much that's new or game-changing about it, minus how thin it is.

That could all be wrong, however, as it hasn't been released yet; there's still time for Toshiba to add in more apps like their DVR application, or a cloud storage app like Amazon's. We haven't been given the opportunity to test it out yet, either. But rest assured, this tablet will meet the unforgiving hands of our reviewers.
