Velocity Micro Cruz T301 Tablet Review

The performance of the Micro Cruz T301 isn't too bad, especially when it's meant to be a budget Android tablet.

Video Controls

The video controls for the Cruz Tablet T301 are more or less the same as the audio controls: simple, ugly, and only offering basic functions. Still, if you're watching a movie on a 7-inch screen, chances are good that no video processing modes are going to help the picture all that much.

Video Management

All media imported onto the Cruz Tablet T301 is managed by the same file system: Astro. This thing is ugly, difficult to wade through and clunky, but it works. Unfortunately the Cruz Tablet T301 will not get many system updates, so if you pick it up, you'll be stuck with it.

Internet Video

In the Cruz Market, there is actually an app that allows you to browse and stream YouTube, but without this app, you will be unable to watch flash movies of any kind. Keep in mind too, that the RAM on this unit is somewhat limited, so large files and high resolutions will not function well on this unit.

Video Battery Life

We admit that we're a little mean to our tablets in our video tests, as we crank the backlight, turn WiFi off and force them to play "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" on repeat until their batteries fail. Our Cruz Tablet T301 review model didn't take to this kindly, and after 4 hours and 4 minutes it refused to continue playing video even though it still held a nominal charge. Not enough to do much, mind you, but enough to keep the screen on and do one or two things before shutdown.
