The new Motorola Xoom will soon be zooming to a store near you. Starting February 24, the new tablet, which is a direct competitor to Apple's iPad, will be available on the Verizon wireless network for $599 with a two-year contract with Verizon. The Xoom will also be available without a contract, but with at an increased price of $799. 3G data service from Verizon starts at $20 for 1GB of monthly service. The Xoom is also available as a Wi-Fi only model without 3G support for $599.

The Xoom is a tablet device that shares a similar appearance to Apple's popular iPad, which was announced last year. Both products have nearly identical weights and dimensions, although the Xoom has a slightly larger 10.1-inch LCD with a larger display resolution (1280 x 800). The Xoom also has a front-facing 2-megapixel camera as well as a a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera that can record 720p HD video. These dual cameras are something that are missing from Apple's current iPad, but they are rumored to be featured on Apple's yet unannounced second-generation iPad that may appear later this year. The Xoom comes loaded with 32GB of internal flash memory.

Other specs for the Motorola Xoom include its 1GHz dual-core processor and the prescence of Google's new Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. Honeycomb was built around the idea of an improved user experience with increased functionality of widgets, multi-tasking, internet browsing, and customization. The Xoom supports tabbed browsing and Flash Player, and it will be upgradable to the Verizon 4G LTE service at no additional cost (when the service becomes available).
